Star Dancer

Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea · Papua New Guinea

Left PNG in 2012. You cannot book this.

It is on this site because I dived with it before it went, and because pages describing it in the present tense are still online. If you arrived here from one of those, this is the correction.

A liveaboard working Milne Bay in Papua New Guinea, part of the Dancer Fleet that grew out of Peter Hughes Diving.

Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea

What it was like

Ten days out of Alotau in June 2012, diving Milne Bay. She was still running PNG itineraries then; within a year she was off the fleet list.

What happened

Archived captures of dancerfleet.com show her listed in July 2011 and gone by January 2013 — along with every reference to Papua New Guinea — so she left the region within months of my trip. Dancer Fleet and Peter Hughes Diving now both redirect to Aggressor, whose fleet covers sixteen countries and includes no Papua New Guinea and no Dancer vessel. What became of the hull — sale, rename or scrapping — I could not establish, so I am not going to guess.

Where to dive it now

Milne Bay is still dived. MV Oceania runs itineraries there out of Alotau, and Febrina works out of Walindi in Kimbe Bay. I have dived with neither, so this is a pointer rather than a recommendation. Oceania is a different vessel entirely, not a renamed Star Dancer.

No affiliate links, no commission, no paid placement. This list is short because it only holds operators I have actually dived with — including the ones that are gone.
